Ather Energy Signs MoU With Tamil Nadu Govt To Set Up Lithium-Ion Battery Plant

Bangalore-based electric vehicle maker has signed a memorandum of Understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to set up an EV and lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The new facility will come up in an area of 400,000 sq ft.
The MoU was signed at the Investment and Skill Development Conclave in Chennai. The electric vehicle maker stated that the new production plant aligns with the brand’s plan to expand to 30 cities in the next few years and that the MoU will help scale-up the production plant.
Tarun Mehta, chief executive officer, Ather Energy, said, "Ather is rapidly scaling up and we need to expand our production capacity to meet the growing demand. The new unit will help us meet the demand for the next few years across the country. Tamil Nadu has been a hub for automobile manufacturing, and they have been working closely with us in their effort to build an EV ecosystem."

Ather Energy opened its first dealership in Chennai earlier this year, and its 450 e-scooter is sold out till December. It is now accepting bookings for its third batch of e-scooter, scheduled to be delivered in Feb-Mar 2020. Ather is also setting up fast-charging stations across Chennai. It has already set-up 10 charging points across the city and will add more in the coming months. Ather is planning to expand to cities like Hyderabad, Pune, Delhi, and Mumbai.
