Japan To Start Installation Of Tesla Powerwall Home Battery

The American automotive and energy company’s gradual rollout of the rechargeable battery system continues with the installations of the Powerwall battery to start from 2020 in Japan. The brand’s 13.5 kilowatt-hours (kWh) Powerwall is capable of storing the power, which is generated by the solar panels. Coming to the pricing, it costs 990,000 yen ($9,135). The installation process of the power wall is a time consuming and lengthy process.

The first rechargeable battery system was revealed by the US electric carmaker, Tesla Motors, back in 2015. It helped in reducing dependence on energy needs from the national grid. According to the brand, after four years now, they have installed about 50,000 sites of Powerwall systems in seven countries. The idea behind doing this is that the systems will be able to store solar energy that can be used to power the home during morning or evening. In addition to that, it will safeguard the house at the time of power cut by giving a backup electricity supply.

At the time of launch, Tesla pointed out the fact that most of the power consumed by a typical house is during the morning and evening. The solar energy will be sufficient in the day-time; however, at night, the home will use a majority of their panels. In simple words, the houses equipped with solar panels can sell their excess solar power to the company and later repurchase it when they require it in the evening or morning.

Country manager of energy products in Japan, Shinji Asakura, said: “Tesla believes that the Japanese home battery market has big growth potential.” Apparently, the company has been taking online orders since 2016 from Japanese customers but has not yet announced the date when the process of installation would commence.
