Auto Expo 2020: Mahindra Funster EV Concept Unveiled, Comes With 300PS+ Power

A Mahindra roadster, it is the first vehicle to sit on the company’s EV dedicated MESMA platform

Prior to unwrapping its vehicles at Expo, Mahindra created the buzz by releasing the teaser of four EV models – eXUV500 (and potentially next-gen SUV), eXUV300, eKUV100 and a quadricycle (supposedly ATOM). Moreover, a high performance future electric vehicle concept called the ‘Funster’ that could blow out a maximum power of more than 230 kW (313PS) was displayed at the Mahindra Pavillion in 2020 Auto Expo. Proficient enough to sprint from nothing to 100 km/h in less than 5 secs, it gets a big battery pack of 60 kWh.

Expectedly, the Mahindra Funster EV concept possesses four electric motors underhood – with the ratio of one motor powering each wheel. These motors in unison will be able to produce a peak power value of 230+ kW.

The Mahindra Funster concept is based on the Mahindra’s ‘one size fits all’ modular electric vehicle platform, MESMA (Mahindra Electric Scalable Modular Architecture). And with such extensive specifications, the Mahindra Funster ends up as merely a technology demonstrator at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Furthermore, from its EV portfolio next year Mahindra will introduce an all-electric variant of the Mahindra XUV300 compact SUV. Expected to be a long-range model with over 300 km per charge, it will be intended towards urban customers. The Mahindra eXUV300 will compete with the recently introduced Tata Nexon EV.

At present, Mahindra EV vehicles in India on sale include recently launched Mahindra eKUV100, Mahindra eVerito, Mahindra e2O Plus, and Mahindra eSupro van and cargo van. The electric Verito sedan is made available in two variants (D2 & D6), while Mahindra e2O Plus comes in three trims (P2, P4, and P6). Moreover, the electric version of Mahindra Supro with passenger and cargo van is offered in a single variant.
