MG ZS Electric Vehicle To Cross 500km Range In Future With A Bigger Battery

The British automobile marque, MG (Morris Garages) has recently revealed the ZS electric vehicle in India. The electric SUV is capable of returning a claimed range of 340km on a full charge. Now, the carmaker claims that figure could cross 500km as it is developing a more efficient and bigger battery pack for the ZS electric SUV.

According to the report, the new battery will weigh the same as the one, which is currently offered in the ZS EV. Even though the upcoming battery will be rated at 73kWh and will be denser than the current 44.5kWh battery pack, the battery will weigh the same, which is very hard to believe. However, MG has the answer to it, and it stated that it would be utilizing cells that can clutch more charge inside of them.

The bad news offered by the carmaker is that this innovative battery pack is still a few years away from production and the carmaker expects that it should be production-ready within two years from now. Having said that, if you desire to purchase the ZS electric vehicle but were not satisfied with the range offered by the SUV, you can try your hands on the one with a better range sometime in late 2021 or even in early 2022, depending on the time the brand takes to develop it.

Moreover, the bigger battery pack would theoretically signify that the time taken to charge the battery completely will also increase. The current battery pack of 44.5kWh takes somewhat under 50 minutes to charge the SUV from 0 to 80 per cent with the help of a DC fast charger of 50kW. However, if you choose to use a 7.4kW AC wall charger, then it will easily take around 6-8 hours to charge the ZS EV fully. Lastly, if you use the emergency portable charger that comes with the car, then it will take around 19 hours with a 15A socket. SO, it will be safe to say that the charging time will be much more than the figures mentioned above.
